U5 Program Rules
Players must be 5 years old at season start. Practice and games are held together in a one hour long, weekly evening session. The first 20-25 minutes is structured practice followed by a refereed game.

Note: all times listed are for the start of the games. Practices will be held 20-25 minutes before game time.

Grade / Age: Kindergarten 4-5 years old
Gender: Separate Boys and Girls Teams
Players on Field: 4 (all field players - no keepers)
Minimum # on Field: 3
Total Players per Team: 6-8
Referees: 1
Ball size: 3
Substitutions: Both teams substitute at stoppage of play, with permission of the Referee
Duration of Game: 6 minute quarters
2 minutes between quarters
5 minutes at half time
33 minutes total time
Laws: FIFA Laws of the game, except -

NEW for Fall 2016 - No deliberate heading the ball (indirect kick for other team)
No slide tackling
No goalkeeper
Play starts from pullback instead of kick-off
All kick-ins (no throw-ins)
All indirect kicks
No penalty kicks
No offside calls
Referee explain various calls/rules to players during game play as a teaching aid.
No scores/standings kept.

Special Laws:

No "camping out" in front of the goal to simulate a goalkeeper.
Opposing players must be 5 yards from the ball on goal kicks, corner kicks and free kicks.
Goal kicks taken from point approximately 1/2 distance from goal post to corner flag

Injuries:

If a coach enters the field to check an injured player, the player must leave the field. Coaches should try to re-enter the player, if possible, to maximize playing time for each player.
